Mardi Himal Trek is a moderate adventure, located around the southern hills of Annapurna Himalayas; which is also known as the ‘Other Sanctuary’. The name was tagged by the early western pioneers and explorers on a reconnaissance mission for the climb of Machhapuchare Himal. The famous Fish Tail peak dominates the southern Annapurna area and the valley of scenic Pokhara city. Although the Machhapuchare Himal is forbidden to climb, remains a virgin and unclimbed peak around the Himalayas. The Mardi Himal is 5,587 m /18,325 feet high a trekking peak as listed by NMA (Nepal Mountaineering Association). Stands beneath the southern-west flank of towering peaks of Machhapuchare Himal within the great Annapurna Himalaya range. There are various routes to reach Mardi Himal and its scenic View-Points, whatever the options it starts and end in Pokhara.
A short drive reaches the starting point of the treks, heading from low warm farmland to cooler Himalayan hills. From then on the high trails to scenic Mardi Himal following the ridges above the green valleys. Walk into serene woods of tall rhododendron, oaks, pines, and fir trees in the close shadow of the Annapurna Himalayas. Slowly the tree lines drop for short alpine bushes as the climb leads to an open and wide magnificent grassy meadow. 
Reaching the main highlight of the adventure at Mardi Himal View-Point, standing in front of staggering Machhapuchare and Mardi Himal. Enjoy the stunning panorama of the Annapurna Himalayas with the Manaslu range of peaks with surrounding dramatic landscapes of rolling green hills. 
Slowly our adventure comes to an end, after a wonderful experience on top of a high ridge at Mardi Himal. The return journey leads on the same scenic trail and then heads on an alternative route to Siding village.

The Best Seasons for Mardi Himal Treks:
Interested people can trek to Mardi Himal nearly all seasons of the year, except for the wet months of monsoon. The best favored seasons are spring and autumn/fall. The spring starts from March to May, when days are longer with enough sunlight hours.

Normally the morning till mid-afternoon days are clear for views and scenic walks can get overcast late afternoon sometime. Can expect snowfalls, with cold morning and nighttime, and the mid-hills covered in the forest will be bright with wildflowers; in seasonal bloom. Especially the rhododendron of various colors from tall trees to bush, which is the national flower of Nepal.

The next high season is autumn/fall, from September to November, most days are fine and crystal clear. One can enjoy pleasant walks along with glorious views of surrounding snow-capped peaks. Days are much shorter due to limited sunlight hours, cold afternoons, and nights till morning time. Can get snowfall sometimes, but with a bright starry night sky. Trekkers can also enjoy trekking to Annapurna base camp during the winter times of December to February. Most days are clear and sunny, but much shorter days due to limited sunlight hours. Cold freezing temperatures in the morning, evening, and night time, chances of snowfall also.

Culture and Religion on Mardi Himal Trek:
The native of the southern Annapurna Region is populated by the Gurung interwoven with the teaching of Buddha. Which is known as the Mahayana religion of Nyingma or Tibetan Buddhism sects. 

The Gurung people various religious events and festivals, the main events are Saga Dawa, the birth anniversary of Lord Buddha. As well the Tamu Lo-Shar 
a New Year falls around mid-December or in January as per Tibetan Buddhism Calendar. The next major festival held around is Dashain, Nepal’s national biggest festival last for Ten Days. Which fall in the end of September or first week of October, the festival victory over evils. Basically, the Gurung are farmers raising and breeding live stocks, but since the arrival of foreign visitors. At present the local economy is dependent upon tourism, as one can experience on this trek to Annapurna base camp from Pokhara onwards. 

Besides Buddhism, the Gurung also practice the ancient religion of pre-Buddhism called Bon. Worship of nature and mountain spirits that is why most Gurung villages do not have monasteries. But every houses are adorned with Buddhist prayer flags, lower mid hills of Annapurna are of mixed tribes of people.
Populated by the Hindu Chettries and Bharamins with Dalits, as well Magar the main tribes of Western Nepal.

Most Gurung and Magar menfolk are world famous as brave Gorkha soldiers in British and Indian Army as well as Singapore Police.

Trip Itinerary

On arrival at Kathmandu and Nepal International Airport, after clearing the visa formalities, and claiming the baggage. Head towards departure exit, where our staff receives you for a short transfer to the hotel. After getting refreshed join on the lobby with other members of Mardi Himal trek for briefing. 

Provided by our guide, leader. On briefing full information of the treks, and hotels in Kathmandu as well of local cultures with do’s and don’ts. Evening a lovely dinner introduction to Nepali foods with exciting cultural programs. 

Morning after breakfast, our city / cultural guide takes you on a tour visiting world heritage sites around Kathmandu city. Includes Old Durbar Square / Palace Courtyard, residence of Living Goddess the Kumari; and to Swayambhunath Stupa with more 2,600 years of history. Then head towards holy Hindu temple of Pashupatinath and Bouddhanath a huge Buddhist Stupa. After an exciting and interesting tour back to hotel, preparation and packing for trekking.

Non-essential clothing and items not required for treks, can be stored in the Hotel or with Everest Adventure Tour.  

Morning or afternoon as per the flight time for Pokhara, transfer to Kathmandu domestic airport. After going through security, get on board in a big aircraft for sweeping panoramic flight of 30 minutes. Enjoy the grand views of majestic 
Himalayas from Langtang, Ganesh and Manaslu Himal to Annapurna range.

Landing at Pokhara airport, a short drive to your respective hotels, located by the
serene Phewa Lake side. Afternoon at leisure for short walks around the lakeside, where all best shops, stores, restaurants and hotels located. Enjoy the views of Annapurna peaks with towering Machhapuchare Himal the famous Fish-Tail peak.

After breakfast get ready for exciting few hour drives beyond Pokhara city and the valley. The views of Annapurna Himalaya range follows on drives till you reach the end of drive at high hill village of Dhampus. The road follows on good road and then heading high on winding uphill towards cooler farm areas. Then reaching at 
Dhampus a nice large village of Gurung the main hill tribes of Annapurna and Lamjung Himal areas. At Dhampus with to enjoy spectacular panorama of
Annapurna Himalayas and Manaslu peaks with majestic Machhapuchare Himal.

From Dhampus village, walk starts following a high ridge path through nice cool forest and farm areas. The walk leads to gradual and short steep climb to reach our overnight halt at Potana. A small settlement with many nice lodges facing 
grand views of Machhapuchare Himal, the famous Fish Tail peak.

Getting organized in a nice lodge, enjoy the afternoon marveling the exciting views of Annapurna peaks. 

Morning from Potana, catching glorious views of Annapurna peaks, walk starts heading on top of Deurali Hill. Enjoy the glamorous scenery of Annapurna with huge bulk of Mt. Dhaulagiri towards north-west. After a refreshing stop, from Deurali our route branches off from the main trail, on leaving the villages.
Heading towards sheer mountain wilderness on less ventured areas by only few group of trekkers. Walk follows into a dense forested path of tall trees of rhododendron and pines, then reaching an open field. Where a small settlement with few small simple lodges located, our overnight halt at Forest Camp.

From isolated areas of Forest Camp, walk leads to gradual up into misty forest with occasional views of snow peaks. Morning a short trek to reach Low Camp, as walk leads on winding ups past few meadows. Then finally our morning treks ends on reaching at Low Camp, amidst forest surrounding having few small huts.

The stone built cottages serves as Tea-House and lodges, check into a nice rooms for overnight as well for lunch. Afternoon take a short stroll around and enjoy the cool fresh air of pristine wilderness.

Leaving Low Camp for high camp, as walk heads higher towards our main highlight destinations around Mardi Himal. From Low Camp slowly the tree lines gives away for short rhododendron bush or azalea and barberry shrubs. 
As the route heads to higher altitude, as the temperatures drops to cooler air then reaching High Camp. The highest overnight stop of the adventure, a small settlement with few smaller lodges to accommodate the trekkers.

Enjoy the dramatic surrounding landscapes with views of snow-capped peaks towards north and east, west directions.   

Start the long day hike from the High Camp to Mardi Himal View Point, walk follows on a high ridgeline. Overlooking grand views of rolling green hills and valleys, then reaching a small flat ground and a plateau. Where Mardi Himal famous View-Point located, after a short rest enjoy the stunning panorama of
Annapurna Himalayan range. Standing close in front of towering South West Face of Machhapuchare Himal with Mardi Himal beneath the Fish Tail peak. 

On reaching the highest and main goal of the adventure, return walk down to High Camp. The journey continues further reaching Badal Danda for last overnight on the high ridge of Mardi Himal. After a long adventurous hike to Mardi View-Point, and worth the hard effort and climbs to experience.

The last walk of the adventure, enjoy the long day trek on downhill to the foothills of Mardi Himal. Start the morning with gradual walk and then the trail leads to steep descend on reaching lower warm areas. Finally after more than five hours of long downhill reaching a small nice farm village at Siding for overnight.

Enjoying the last overnight on the high hills of Mardi Himal and around Annapurna Himalayas. A short walk to the road-head, ten get on board in a local vehicles for exciting drive to Pokhara by the Phewa Lakeside. On reaching the hotel in Pokhara, having good lunch. Enjoy the afternoon at leisure for individual activities before dinner in one of its many fancy restaurants.

As time for short scenic flight to Kathmandu, transfer to Pokhara Airport for sweeping smooth air journey. After a grand panoramic views of country landscapes and snow peaks, then landing at Kathmandu airport.

From the airport, a short drive back to your hotels rest of the day at leisure for solo activities.

Final day in Kathmandu and Nepal, as time for your international flight for homeward bound or next port of call. Transfer to Kathmandu, Nepal international airport bidding farewell to your guide and staff, after a marvelous and enjoyable adventure to Mardi Himal trek.

Mardi Himal Trek a new and fresh adventure destinations around the remote corners of southern Annapurna Himalayas high ridges. Where Luxury lodges are not available, except at Dhampus village but the trek does not stay overnight in Dhampus. On this adventure after leaving Dhampus village till the trek ends at Pokhara, staying overnights in simple mountain lodge. But the rooms are clean and the foods are well served as per the menu provided in every lodges.

Trekkers will be surprised to find good food menu of varieties, from Tibetan, Nepali, Indian and Chinese to Continental. Includes long list of snacks and drinks for the customer delights in most lodges on treks. 

The lodge accommodation are nice, basic and simple with common bath and toilets. Trekkers should remember as the trek leads beyond from main village of Dhampus and Potana. Attached bath and toilets are not available due to freezing temperatures in the night and morning. Where all plumbing systems freeze, and stops the flow of water which will be filled with ice. 

However, all lodges are clean with good rooms, having large dining with potbellied stoves to make the environment warm and cozy.

Mardi Himal Trek, all types of people from beginners to expert trekkers can join on this wonderful adventure. The altitude gains slowly at gradually, chances of catching High Altitude Sickness or AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness) are very slim. The highest point is Mardi View Point at 4,500 m, staying only for an hour or more, and then on downhill to lowers elevation. The itinerary we have set allows more time to get acclimatize before reaching the highest spot.

Rest of the walk and overnight halt is around safe altitude, below 4, 000 m and 3,000 m before reaching High Camp just for one overnight. 
The only tough walk is climbing steep uphill and on down hills, rest of the trek is enjoyable and enjoyable.

Mardi Himal is a wonderful and the best country walks around the Himalayas, but leads to much steep climb and long down hills. Rest of the journey is pleasant facing scenic views. The trek involves uphill and down on stone steps, it will best before planning and booking the trip. Enjoying some routine exercise like jogging, walking upstairs and downstairs. Including swimming, aerobic or any other good physical and breathing exercise will do you good to stay healthy for Mardi Himal Trek. As well for any other treks around the Himalayas to enjoy the adventure holidays. Some people minor medical problem, can join on this treks after taking advice from your doctors and inform the company on booking.

Certainly yes, it will be a great wonderful adventure with beautiful contrast between Mardi Himal and Annapurna Base Camp. The extension trip branches off from Badal Danda or Low Camp to reach Landruk village. Then onwards to Annapurna Base Camp takes a week extension, which should be mentioned on booking as special request. From Badal Danda or Low Camp one can split from the group, and head towards Annapurna Base Camp. As well can trek to Ghorepani and Poon Hill, which is worth a visit.
