The tour includes the cities of Kathmandu, Patan / Lalitpur, and Bhaktapur, at one time three separate and independent kingdoms. During the early centuries, the valley was covered by a huge lake more than 2,600 years back. The legend and belief are that it was drained by the mighty sword of Manjushree, and made the valley fertile. For the people to settle, at present Manjushree is respected as the patron god of the native Newars. The main indigenous tribes of Kathmandu Valley are enriched with age-old ancient cultures and customs, which visitors can observe.  

The three cities are divided into three kingdoms before it was merged into one nation in the early 17th Century. At present stands as different districts close by as neighboring cities, where this wonderful tour takes you on a visit.

Starting first with a tour of Kathmandu city's famous ancient sites of old Durbar/palace and its royal courtyard. Treasures of age-old monuments and the residence of Kumari the Living Goddess, the place teems with daily life and activity. The tour extends to 2,500 years old Swayambhunath a dome Buddhist Stupa that stands on a hillock. Facing grand views of Kathmandu city, an interesting and religious for all Buddhist followers, as well for non-Buddhist.

The tour extends to the holy Hindu temple of Pashupatinath dedicated to Lord Shiva, and then the tour of Bouddhanath. A huge dome Stupa in the area is also called Little Tibet due to the local strong Tibetan Buddhism culture.

The Best Seasons for Kathmandu Three cities Tour: 
The best seasons are spring and autumn/fall. The spring starts from March to May when days are longer with enough sunlight hours. Normally the morning till mid-afternoon days are clear for views and scenic walks can get overcast late afternoon sometimes. 

The next high season is autumn/fall, from September to November, most days are fine and crystal clear. One can enjoy pleasant walks and tours, along with glorious views of surrounding snow-capped peaks.

The days are much shorter with limited sunlight hours, cold afternoons, and nights till morning time. Morning after breakfast, our city / cultural guide takes you on a tour visiting world heritage sites around Kathmandu city. Includes Old Durbar Square / Palace Courtyard, residence of Living Goddess the Kumari; and to Swayambhunath Stupa with more 2,600 years of history. Then head towards holy Hindu temple of Pashupatinath and Bouddhanath a huge Buddhist Stupa. After an exciting and interesting tour back to hotel.

Kathmandu Durbar Square:
Uncountable monuments around Kathmandu Durbar Square. 
The house of the Living Goddess (Kumari Ghar), ferocious Kal Bhairab, the red monkey god, and hundreds of erotic carvings are a few examples of the sights at the Square! The buildings here are the greatest achievements of the Malla dynasty. The Square teems with colorful life. Vendors sell vegetables, curios, flutes, and other crafts around the Kasthamandap rest house. 

Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple): 
More than 25 Century old, stands as one of the world's oldest Buddhist Stupa. 
The Great Stupa of Swayambhunath is the wonder that was Nepal, the glory that was Nepal. A religious center, for faithful worship of Vajrayana philosophy in honor of Lord Adi Buddha, painted on four-sided based by spiral all seeing eyes of Lord Buddha, keeping an eternal watch on the Valley distinguishing between vice and virtue. A mere distance west of Kathmandu City, situated on a hillock, at about 500 feet above the level of the Valley. The whole hill is a mosaic of small Chaitiya and pagoda temples possessing great five Mahayana (Lamaism) and one Hinayana (Therbadist). On the hind hill is located another important Buddhist shrine; it is called Manjushree. This Chinese Buddha is the God of Knowledge. 

Pashupatinath Temple:
A pagoda style Hindu temple with gilt roofing and richly carved silver doors dedicated to Lord Shiva and is situated at the bank of the holy Baghmati River. One of the most sacred temples in the entire Hindu world, Pashupatinath Temple is the nerve center of pilgrimage on the day of Shivaratri. 

Bouddhanath Stupa:
Largest Buddhist monument of South Asia. The ancient colossal Chorten built in 6th century A.D. by King Man Deb. It rests on a series of three terraces, relevant shape of a lotus flower. The Stupa surrounded by circular market, which forms a part of Tibet town. In this case, also the four pairs of the Buddha's eyes give a vivid flash to the four cardinal directions. The Stupa embraces authentic philosophy of Mahayana, faith known as Lamaism in Nepal, Sikkim, Ladakh, Bhutan and Tibet. 

An interesting place for visit at old city of Bhaktapur, and a living museum an hour drive to reach east of Kathmandu city. Bhaktapur with many religious and ancient historical monuments of temples and palace of the Malla regime.

Bhaktapur most interesting sites and places of worship: 

The Durbar Square: Bhaktapur old Durbar Square, with many ancient monuments around the palace courtyard. Most ancient buildings, monuments, listed in UNESCO World Heritage Sites, reflecting the city's unique culture, arts including architectural wonders. 

Tour of golden gate regarded as the world's most magnificent and richly carved of unique design and work of artistic skill, enjoy views of the palace with 55 windows. 

Nytapola Temple:

One of the main highlights of Bhaktapur is a pagoda roof Nytapola Temple, which means a five-storied temple at the height of 30 meters, the tallest temple of Kathmandu, and the landmark of Bhaktapur city. Built by King Bhupindra Malla in 1708 AD. On each step of the temple entrance stands a pair of figures, from the bottom with a statue of wrestlers, elephant, lion, griffins, and goddesses.  

Dattatreya Temple:

A little further another nice temple, built-in 1427 AD, which was built from the wood of a single tree, visit and witness exquisitely carved peacock windows located near the temple area. 

Pottery square and market:

Bhaktapur, also famous for pottery with two main areas, the first pottery square at Suryamadhi east of Dattatreya Temple Square.

Extension Tour of Changunarayan Temple:                    

Having Lunch break, in a nice restaurant at Bhaktapur Durbar Square before a short drive north from Bhaktapur to Changunarayan. Afternoon drive leads above Bhaktapur city suburb to Changunarayan Temple and the quaint village.

A short walk to enter one of Nepal’s oldest monuments, the temple listed in the World Heritage Site, a fifth century-old standing over a hillock 15 km. of Bhaktapur, beautiful work of art and craftsmanship of the temple adorned with full of artistic works on metal and wood. Inscription dating back to 464 AD found here are the first epigraphic evidences of Nepalese history. 

The temple with lovely statue of Garuda, the vehicle of Lord Vishnu, enjoy a pleasant tour with prayer and get blessed by the priest, and then head back to your hotel in Kathmandu. After a lovely exciting and interesting day beyond Kathmandu city.

Morning drive to Patan, also called Lalitpur a different district of Kathmandu valley, separated by Bagmati River. Where old Malla kingdom palace located with great Krishna temple built of fine stonework.

Visit the temple and offer prayer with short puja, and then walk around the palace courtyard of great intricate carving on doors and windows, with many historical monuments, and then drive back to the hotel preparation for another exciting tour.

Places to visit in Patan Durbar Square:

PATAN DURBAR SQUARE:
Patan Durbar Square is located amidst the busy colorful market called Mangal Bazaar in the heart of Patan or Lalitpur district. The word Lalitpur means city of fine arts and crafts, which you can witness on this tour of Patan Durbar Square.

The Patan Durbar Square was added to World Heritage Sites in 1979, a place of charm and beauty. The royal courtyard or Durbar Square was established in the 6th century by King Siddhi Narsinga Malla. The square is steeped with ancient places, temples, and shrines a masterpiece for exquisite carvings, and fine artworks. 

The former royal palace complex is the center of Patan's religious and social life. Houses a museum treasures an array of bronze statues and religious objects, and beautiful handicrafts and paintings.

Patan Durbar Square houses ancient Newari architecture with three main courtyards in the palace: Mul Chowk, Sundari Chowk, and Keshav Narayan Chowk. Mul Chowk is the oldest one at the center of Patan Durbar Square.

Several multi-sized and multi-styled temple houses the western part of the complex. Main among these are Krishna Temple, Bhimsen Temple, and the Golden Temple of Hiranya.

Krishna Temple:

The temple dedicated to the Hindu god Krishna was built in the 17th century. Considered the first Shikara architecture ever built, the temple is one of the gems of Durbar Square. 

Kumbheshwor:
Just at the rim of Durbar square stands the five-storied pagoda temple of Lord Siva built by King Jayasthiti Malla, inside the temple premises a natural spring, its source the belief is from the famous glacial lake of Gosainkunda around Langtang Himal of Rasuwa district.

The golden work on the temple was added later in 1422 A.D. On the festival of Janai Purnima (month of August), ritual bathing and fair take place.
