Bhutan Cultural Tour and Scenic Trek is a wonderful combination for eager travelers visiting, the only Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan. Tucked in the middle of India and Bangladesh, towards the southeast with Tibet / China in the north. 

The small kingdom of Bhutan came into existents in the 11th century, after separating from the eastern province of Tibet. The Himalayan Kingdom remained isolated from the rest of the world for ages, then it flung its door open in 1974. Allowing interested wide-world visitors to travel within the Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan to explore and observe its hidden treasures. An exotic country to visit from age-old ancient Dzong the fortress, and its majestic monasteries.

The Bhutanese live in peaceful harmony under the shadow of high Himalayan peaks, the country itself known as Druk. The peaceful or a thundering dragon, with its scenic countryside of green valleys and rolling hills. Covered in lush tall trees of coniferous and deciduous forest, with blooming vegetation makes Bhutan a wonderful holiday destination.

Bhutan Cultural Tour and scenic Trek allow various opportunities, from Kathmandu in Nepal and over the Himalayas. Reaching the land of peaceful dragons at the Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan, where the tour leads to famous Bhutan landmarks. After visiting the fabled town, and historical religious sites, the journey leads to the beautiful countryside at Gangtey amidst scenic Phobjikha Valley.  

The trek leads to picturesque landscapes facing views of snow-peaks, in the close harmony of lovely farm villages. As the walk progresses crossing the high scenic pass of Shobju-La above 3,600 m high offers a breathtaking panorama of Himalayan peaks. Walking into a serene enchanting forest of firs, pines, and rhododendron trees, then slowly our marvelous country walks conclude. 

As drive takes you back to Thimphu and Paro for the last overnight in Bhutan.

Best Season:
For Bhutan Cultural Tour and Scenic Trek, the best season is from spring of March to May. The next good season is autumn from September to early November month. Spring is warm full of sunny days for pleasant tours and views of snow peaks. Similarly, autumn times are best till October, cold morning and late afternoon, pleasant times for tours, treks and views.

Religion & Culture:
Bhutan with more than 80 % of the practice of the Mahayana sect of Buddhism, also known as Tibetan Buddhism. The main idol and teacher or Guru is Sakyamuni Buddha, the present Buddha, and the famous Gurus. Likewise saint Padamasamba or Guru Rinpoche.

Buddhism reached Bhutan in the early 9th or 10th century, the founder of Buddhism in Tibet and neighboring countries King Songsten Gyambo. 
At present, there are four major sects of Tibetan Buddhism the first Nyingma or red hat (8th century), Sakyapa (10th century) Kagyupa (11th century and Gelugpa the yellow hat (14th Century). Tibetan Buddhism is a form of Vajrayana, started by Guru Rinpoche/saint Padamasamba in the 8th Century. Besides Buddhism, there are a few minor Hindu religions in the Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan.

Trip Itinerary

On arrival at Kathmandu and Nepal International Airport, after clearing the visa formalities, and claiming the baggage. Head towards departure exit, where our staff receives you for a short transfer to the hotel. After getting refreshed join on the lobby with other members for Bhutan Cultural Tour & Scenic Trek briefing, provided by our guide, leader. 

Briefing with full information of the tour in Bhutan, hotels as well of local cultures with do’s and don’ts. Evening a lovely dinner introduction to Nepali foods with exciting cultural programs. 

Morning after breakfast, our city / cultural guide takes you on a tour visiting world heritage sites around Kathmandu city. Includes Old Durbar Square / Palace Courtyard, residence of Living Goddess the Kumari; and to Swayambhunath Stupa with more 2,600 years of history. Then head towards holy Hindu temple of Pashupatinath and Bouddhanath a huge Buddhist Stupa. After an exciting and interesting tour back to hotel, preparation for Bhutan Tour and Treks.

Non-essential clothing and items not required for Tibet, can be stored in the Hotel or with Everest Adventure Tour.   

As time for flight normally around late morning, transfer to Kathmandu International Airport. A sweeping scenic flight in Druk Air or similar on a bigger aircraft facing panorama of Himalayan peaks. Includes views of 
Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Makalu and Cho-Oyu, as the flight heads beyond Nepal and across Tibet. Then landing at Bhutan’s International Airport in Paro, after going through visa and passport check at the immigration. 

Then head outside the airport terminal, where our native Bhutanese guide and driver will receives you with traditional welcome. A short drive to the hotel at Paro, one of the largest town after Thimphu the capital. 

In Paro, having time for stroll around the market and streets lined with fancy traditional shops and restaurants. 

Morning after breakfast in respective hotels, our native guide will take you on a pleasant walk with short drive. Then hike on steep uphill to famous old Tasking Monastery, popularly called the “Tiger's Nest”.  

In early days, an isolated place for retreats and meditation of many Buddhist monks, high priest of Tibet and Bhutan. This amazing wonderful monastery located in an overhanging rocky cliff. Facing great views of Paro town and snow-capped peaks. From here downhill and short drive to visit the 17th century Ta-Dzong, later converted into the National Museum in 1967. Afternoon free at leisure for stroll around Paro shops and markets.

Another day in Paro, a major town of Bhutan after Thimphu with historical and cultural background. The guide leads you for a full day tour of Paro visiting the ruined fort. It was built to commemorate the victory over Tibetan invaders in 17th century. After an impressive tour of Druk Gyaldzong, afternoon having lunch. An interesting tour of Bhutan’s National Museum displaying rich collections of ancient treasures with fine arts and weapons. From here back to hotel at Paro for rest, on completing a wonderful days around Paro.

Morning after breakfast depart for Bhutan capital city to Thimphu, after a wonderful moments at Paro. An interesting short and scenic drive of few hours, heading past lovely countryside, dotted with farm villages.

The drive then enters the capital town of Bhutan at Thimphu, an interesting town and a small city without any traffic lights. All traffic are controlled by traffic police with a whistle blow, on reaching Thimphu transfer into a nice hotels having traditional style rooms. Rest of the day enjoy a stroll around the streets of Thimphu, a nice way to observe the local activities and cultures.

After a pleasant overnight and having good breakfast our guide will take you on a tour to visit a memorial stupa. Includes visit of indigenous hospital, where traditional medicine is still practiced and the painting school. On a full day tour around Thimphu visiting following places of great cultural and historical interest. 

The Buddha Dordenma: The 51 m / 168 feet tall statue of Buddha Dordenma a statue completely built of steel with a gold plated above. The best time to visit this is at night when the moonlight falls on this massive statue that glitters full of charm and beauty.

The Memorial Chorten: The Memorial Chorten which is also called as Thimphu Chorten. The tallest monument in Thimphu.  It is one of the prominent landmarks of the city with golden spires and bells.

Thimphu Weekend Market: A great place to witness Bhutanese culture and heritage, as well to interact with the locals, the Thimphu Weekend Market is a great place to visit. 

Folk Heritage Museum of Thimphu: The Museum flaunts all kinds of folk Heritage of the country under one roof. An interesting place of Bhutan’s history and folktales. 

At Thimphu, having good breakfast an interesting overland journey to Gangtey, the drive leads beautiful countryside. Heading towards high green hills facing grand scenery of amazing landscapes. The drive leads through lovely farm villages and then reaching Gangtey, situated on a beautiful Phobjikha glacial valley.

At Gangtey, check into a nice homely comfort of a guest / farm house amidst picturesque backdrop; of green hills and snow peaks.

From Gangtey after a pleasant overnight, the trek starts quite a long day walk through farm and rural villages. As walk continues entering beautiful alpine forest area, and then completing the days walk on reaching Gogona village for overnight in a nice cozy guesthouse / lodge. Another lovely areas in the harmony of pristine natural surroundings of beautiful green woods and valley.

Chances of spotting the rare endangered Black Necked Crane, often visits around Gangtey and Gogona during spring and summer times.

After overnight in Gogona and visiting its interesting monastery, an early morning start for another six hours walks. Today’s route leads to steep climb over Shobju La pass at 3,600 meters, the highest point of the adventure. But for every hard effort, rewards with spectacular panoramic views of surrounding landscapes with views of towering snow-capped peaks. From the top downhill towards a wide valley reaching Khoatokha village for overnight stop in a nice guesthouse / lodge.

From Khoatokha, morning walk on a winding path with few ups and downhill amidst lovely forest of rhododendron-magnolia-birch and pines. The trek then slowly comes to an end for overnight halt at Wangdi Phodrang. Staying in the comfort of a nice cosy log cabin serves as guest house. After a great lovely walk of more than five hours within beautiful and scenic country.   

Our last day walk of the adventure a short morning trek with exciting drive to Thimphu. Morning walk follows to a nice Chuzomsa village, after trekking past farm villages facing grand vista of snow peaks. Enjoy the last steep climb to cross over Tashi-La at 2,780 m high, a small ridge and a pass. From the top downhill to Chuzomsa village, where our trek ends taking an interesting drive to Thimphu.
The drive of about four hours on exciting country winding dirt road and then on smooth highway to Thimphu for last overnight in Bhutan. 

As time for flight back to Kathmandu or to connect the air journey to other Indian cities. Leaving Thimphu for couple hour drive to reach Paro, Bhutan international airport. As you enter the air terminal, bid farewell to our Bhutanese guide, drivers and then a sweeping scenic flight; brings you back to Kathmandu. On arrival at Kathmandu airport transfer to your hotels, rest of the day at leisure for individual activities.  

Final day in Kathmandu and Nepal, as time for your international flight for homeward bound or next port of call. Transfer to Kathmandu, Nepal international airport, bidding farewell to the staff, after a marvelous and enjoyable adventure on Bhutan Cultural Tour & Scenic Trek.
