Langtang Valley is located within the district of Rasuwa, directly north of Kathmandu city and the valley within Central Himalayas. Which includes the massif Ganesh Himal in the west with Jugal Himal towards the east, and close to Tibet / China border. The beautiful and scenic areas of Langtang fall within Langtang National Park, the first mountainous or Himalayan park of Nepal. 
 Established in the year 1976, with an area of 1710 sq. km, extends to the districts of Nuwakott and Sindhupalchok. The park is rich in exotic flora and fauna and is the main habitat of the elusive and endangered Red Panda. Includes other mountain wildlife with snow-leopard and various species of rhododendron from tall trees to bush. 
The Langtang Himal region has an array of giant peaks above 7,000 meters, likewise the Langtang Lirung and Langtang-Ri. These are the main tallest peaks located within the beautiful valley of Langtang, it extends as far as Dorje-Lakpa. The Langtang Himal also forms the boundary between the borders of two countries Nepal and Tibet / China. 
Langtang Valley Trek begins and ends at a nice small town of Syabrubesi after an interesting overland journey from Kathmandu. The walk starts heading uphill to enter a river gorge covered in a dense lovely forest. Lined with oaks, rhododendron, and pines, fir trees with bamboo thickets, as walk heads further the trees give away. On entering an open exposed wide glacial valley of Langtang Himal range reaching a nice settlement at Kyanjin Gompa. 
Kyanjin Gompa is situated in the heart of Langtang Valley and is the highest overnight stop of the adventure. At Kyanjin Gompa with time to enjoy its scenic surroundings, as well exploring its grand view-points for stunning mountain panorama.
After a marvelous experience around Langtang Valley and at Kyanjin Gompa, return journey downhill to Syabrubesi. The next morning, an exciting drive brings you to Kathmandu, after a great wonderful short adventure on Langtang Valley Trek.
The Langtang trek is 77 km/48 mi (including Kyanjin-Ri peak). It takes 5-7 days on average to complete the route. You can add some side treks to the route which will increase your total distance. If you walk to Tserko-Ri peak from Kyanjin Gompa it will add around 8 km to your trek

The Best Seasons for Langtang Valley Trekking:
Interested people can join the Langtang Valley trek in all seasons, except for the wet months of monsoon; mid-June to August. The best favored seasons are spring and autumn/fall. The spring starts from March to May when days are longer with enough sunlight hours. Normally the morning till mid-afternoon days are clear for views and scenic walks can get overcast late afternoon sometime. Can expect snowfalls, with cold morning and nighttime, and the mid-hills covered in the forest will be bright with wildflowers; in seasonal bloom. Especially the rhododendron of various colors from tall trees to a bush, which is the national flower of Nepal.

The next high season is autumn/fall, from September to November, most days are fine and crystal clear. One can enjoy pleasant walks along with glorious views of surrounding snow-capped peaks. Days are much shorter due to limited sunlight hours, cold afternoons, and nights till morning time. Can get snowfall sometimes, but with a bright starry night sky. Trekkers can also enjoy Ghorepani & Poon Hill during the winter times of December to February. Most days are clear and sunny, but much shorter days due to limited sunlight hours. Cold freezing temperatures in the morning, evening, and night time, chances of snowfall also.

Culture and Religion around Langtang Valley Trek:
The native of Langtang Valley around the district of Rasuwa is populated by the Tamang people. The indigenous tribes of the Central Himalayas follow Buddhism of Mahayana sect of Nyingma or Tibetan Buddhism. 

The Tamang also practice the Bon sect of pre-Buddhism an ancient cult. Worship of nature and mountain spirits of Shamanism custom of age-old heritage. The ancient tribe migrated from Inner Mongolia through Tibet to Nepal's high hills and mountains. With a history of more than 3,000 years back, the Tamang settled in the northern hills of Kathmandu and Mid-West / East Nepal. The word Ta for Horse and Mang is a rider, hence the name Tamang or Horse rider. As they were Calvary or soldiers riding on horses, some have changed the title to Lama as well. 

The Tamang celebrates various religious events and festivals, the main events are Saga Dawa, the birth anniversary of Lord Buddha. As well Sonam Lo-Shar is the New Year as per the life-cycles of animals and birds. Falls around January as per the Buddhist Lunar calendar. The Tamang are farmers raising and breeding live stocks but since the arrival of foreign visitors. At present, the local economy is dependent upon tourism, as one can experience on this trek to Langtang Valley. 

All villages and every house is adorned with Buddhist prayer flags and religious monuments.

Trip Itinerary

On arrival at Kathmandu and Nepal International Airport, after clearing the visa formalities, and claiming the baggage. Head towards departure exit, where our staff receives you for a short transfer to the hotel. After getting refreshed join on the lobby with other members for Langtang Valley trek briefing, provided by our guide, leader. On briefing full information of the treks, and hotels in Kathmandu as well of local cultures with do’s and don’ts. Evening a lovely dinner introduction to Nepali foods with exciting cultural programs. 

Morning after breakfast, our city / cultural guide takes you on a tour visiting world heritage sites around Kathmandu city. Includes Old Durbar Square / Palace Courtyard, residence of Living Goddess the Kumari; and to Swyambhunath Stupa with more 2,600 years of history. Then head towards holy Hindu temple of Pashupatinath and Bouddhanath a huge Buddhist Stupa. After an exciting and interesting tour back to hotel, preparation and packing for trekking.

Non-essential clothing and items not required for treks, can be stored in the Hotel or with Everest Adventure Tour.   

The drive to Syabrubesi, begins the drive early morning after a good breakfast for a long journey of about six hours or more. Depending upon the road condition, as well there is two route to reach up to Trisuli Bazaar en-route to Dhunche town and Syabrubesi. Taking the shortest way head down beyond Kathmandu valley reaching a small town of Galche. From here across the bridge, and then on good road following the Trisuli upstream to warmer areas of Trisuli Bazaar, the main town of Nuwakot district. Drive continues heading along the winding uphill entering the district of Rasuwa, where air gets cooler on reaching Dhunche the headquarters town of Rasuwa and Langtang region. As well the entry point of Langtang National Park, from Dhunche on the winding zig-zag downhill to Syabrubesi, once a small farm village. At present has become into a small town enjoy the overnight in the comfort of a nice lodge or guest house. 

Morning after first overnight in hill village of Langtang Himal area, populated by the Tamang community. The native of Langtang and Central Himalayas of Tibetan origin and similar practice of Buddhism religion. As you encounter on the trek to Langtang valley at Kyanjin Gompa. Morning starts crossing the Bhote Koshi River which flows from the glacial source of Tibetan mountains. 

The uphill walk reaching a ridge and coming across a small isolated place of 
River Side, having few small lodge and Tea-House. Probably stopping for lunch break as time permits, afternoon walk with slow climb into a dense tree lines.
After few hours of afternoon walks reaching to our overnight destination at 
Lama Hotel, situated on a nice clearing. Amidst thick forest and by the river side, and lush vegetation, enjoy the comfort of a nice lodge accommodation. 

After a pleasant overnight with the sound of a river flow, morning walk heads higher into dense forest. Lined with rhododendron, pine, and firs, includes bamboo thickets, which makes an ideal habitat for endangered and rare Red Panda. Few wildlife is often seen around this areas, the walk follows higher reaching a small spot at Ghoretabela. Possible lunch stop or further to Thyangsap on the trail to Mundu village. Walk heads through forested path reaching a place of boulders of rocks and huge stones. This is where Langtang village existed before the huge earthquake of 2015. The villages was badly damaged and loss of many human life including some foreign trekkers. From this former devastated areas, a short walk further to reach our overnight halt at Mundu, a new settlement after Langtang village disappeared from the earthquakes.

Today a short morning walk to our main destination and highlight to Kyanjin, located in the heart of Langtang Valley. Morning on leaving Mundu settlement in the comfort of nice cozy lodge, walk follows towards east.

A slow short steep climb facing glorious panorama of giant snow peaks, as you enter the scenic Langtang Valley. After a lovely morning walks of some hours reaching Kyanjin Gompa, a wonderful place for overnight halt for two nights.

Enjoy the day, after a good lunch in the lodge restaurant, marveling the beautiful views of surrounding snow peaks. Explore around the lovely settlement of Kyanjin and the highest overnight stop of the adventure.

A full day on this beautiful spot at Kyanjin, best good short hike to the top of
high Kyanjin-Ri at 4,850 m / 15, 912 feet. Rewards spectacular panoramic views of surrounding towering peaks of Langtang and Jugal Himal range.

Few other places like Tserko-Ri which takes nearly whole day hike both ways and quite tiring walks. Rest of the day stroll around the Kyanjin and visit the local Gompa / monastery of religious and cultural interest.

From Kyanjin after a wonderful moment, today will be one of the longest walks of the journey. Leaving Kyanjin and the scenic Langtang Valley, on long downhill through Mundu and Ghoretabela and back into tree lines.  Following the same exciting route to Lama Hotel for overnight stop.

Another long day walk to Syabrubesi, but quite short than previous day follow the river for an hour till Riverside. From here walk through smaller farm areas and then downhill to a bridge and on pleasant trail to Syabrubesi.

On completing the last day of trek enjoy the final overnight around the hill village and town at Syabrubesi.

Morning leaving much early for the long and interesting overland journey heading uphill to Dhunche town. From here on winding down to reach Trisuli Bazaar, and then on good road to Kathmandu. After an exciting drive through farm towns and villages, on reaching the city area transfer to your hotels.

A moderate adventure as well a short trek, all age group can enjoy the walk to Langtang Valley. Where altitude does not make a difference, the only tough is climb uphill on first day to Lama Hotel. Including hike up to Kyanjin-Ri. 
Taking slow and steady with enough short rest can overcome the steep and hard sections of the climb. Eventually walk involves much downhill on return journey to the end of trek. 

Families with young children and elderly people of 75 to 80 years of age can join. All should be in normal physical shape and good health, if someone has any medical history can take advice from your doctors before signing for the treks.


Trekkers will be surprised to find good food menu of varieties, from Tibetan, Nepali, Indian and Chinese to Continental. Includes long list of snacks and drinks for the customer delights in most lodges on treks. 

The lodge accommodation are nice and lovely according to the choices of the trekkers. From budget to standard accommodation at Kyanjin and Syabrubesi, but most settlements offers non-attached bath and toilets. All the lodges are simple and clean with nice rooms with large and warm dining with common toilets and bathrooms.

All lodges have hydro-power to run electricity, or by solar power, where trekkers can charge their electronic items and gadgets. A fee is charged per hour for each items, as for internet and Wi-Fi, have connection. Depending upon the areas in deep gorge and valley, as well weather wise, can be disturbing with bad receptions. The best place is Syabrubesi and Kyanjin, other places do works well with local SIM. Which can be bought in Kathmandu at reasonable cost.

Spring season from March to May. The whole areas on route Langtang Valley will be bright and lively with wildflowers in seasonal bloom. The surrounding forest of Langtang area looks magical as natural wild garden. Trekkers can observe the wildflowers of all colors and different species. Especially the rhododendron flowers of great variation from tall trees to short bush.
