UPPER MUSTANG OVERLAND ADVENTURE
‘enjoy the picturesque country of Mustang in the comfort of four wheel drives’

Upper Mustang Overland Adventure, is a great way to experience the arid country of Far Western Nepal. The beautiful landscapes and extension of Tibet's South West plateau, are regarded as the world’s highest and largest tableland or plateau. The Upper Mustang was at one time a forbidden country for outside visitors, but open its door in 1992 onwards.

But remains a restricted area of Nepal, where the flow of foreign visitors is limited, and to enter requires a special permit. This is due to its close border with Tibet / China, at one time it was the main caravan route.

Where the Trans Himalaya Salt Trade Trail of India and Nepal, passed through lower and upper Mustang to Tibet. The trade, and exchange of goods still exist but in smaller ways than in the early good days. When Tibet was a sovereign country, the kingdom of Mustang and Lo-Manthang was established around the 13th century. Where the first Raja or king ruled the great territory from high Mustang to lower Kaligandaki Valley. At present known as Lower Mustang, Jomsom is the main headquarters and Lo-Manthang remains a former walled kingdom.

Upper Mustang Overland Adventure, one of the most spectacular and fascinating high land, is located in Nepal's Far North-West. The terrains, cultures, and people are similar to Tibetans which is why Mustang is also called a ‘Little Tibet’.

The Upper Mustang although a near desert-like landscape, is one of the favorites among professional photographers. Due to its amazing formation of high windblown canyon walls with towering cliffs dotted with smaller man-made caves. Includes grand vista of white snow-capped peaks of Nilgiris and Dhaulagiri Himalayas with mountains across the border.

The Upper Mustang Adventure starts from scenic Pokhara city, a leading and renowned tourist destination around Nepal and the Himalayas.

Reaching lower Mustang at Jomsom, after a swift panoramic flight and then following the ancient Trans Himalaya Caravan Trail. The drive leads past Kagbeni village, the main entrance to Upper Mustang, and into a wild windswept country. As the overland journey continues heading over several scenic high passes and through lovely traditional villages and farm areas.

Then finally the adventure enters the former forbidden walled kingdom at Lo-Manthang, a timeless medieval-era town. At one time it was known as the city with lovely Tibetan-style houses attached. Having time to explore its famous heritage sites of majestic monasteries and the late kings' fort-like palace.

After an interesting time and experience around Upper Mustang and the walled kingdom of Lo-Manthang. Return journey on the same scenic route following the beautiful terrains back to Jomsom for the last overnight around the Mustang area. Jomsom is also the headquarters and main town of Mustang district, located
on a vantage point. For various scenic adventures from Mustang, Dhaulagiri, and Annapurna, as far as to Dolpo region. From Jomsom the next morning on a short panoramic flight to Pokhara, where our wonderful journey concludes.
